The Spirit of ’76 Scholarship Fund presented its inaugural scholarship to Eastwood High School senior Daniel Mora, launching a ten-year commitment by members of the 1976 Texas State Championship team to honor the values behind their historic legacy.
Selected for his academic achievement, leadership, and character, Daniel received the award from teammates Jim Bowden, Gilbert Shepherd, and Doug Rutter, joined by longtime assistant coach Gary Pippen.
More than recognizing one student, the ceremony celebrated a lasting legacy—ensuring future Eastwood students are honored for the same discipline, teamwork, integrity, and pride that have defined the Troopers for fifty years.

April 25, 2026 — Jerry Krampen, Darold Molix, and Doug Rutter sat down to discuss the launch of the inaugural Spirit of ’76 Scholarship Fund, a new annual award created to honor the legacy of Eastwood High School’s 1976 State Championship team.
