Jon Herington — Backstage with Steely Dan
This photograph was taken backstage after a Steely Dan concert in Albuquerque. Terri and I had just seen an exceptional performance and had the opportunity to spend time with Jon Herington afterward.
Steely Dan’s music demands extraordinary musicianship. Hearing it performed live makes you appreciate the precision, tone, and character Jon’s guitar work brings to songs that generations of listeners know so well.
The photograph has become even more meaningful with time. Jon became more than a musician I admired from the audience. I had the opportunity to know him personally and to preserve part of his musical story through The Collective.
The Guitar Edition is about more than the instruments—it preserves the musicians, relationships, and stories that give them meaning.
Great guitars have stories. The people who play them make those stories matter.

Al Jourgensen
October 4, 2015 — El Paso, Texas
This photograph was taken in Al Jourgensen’s backyard in El Paso during a period when I had the opportunity to manage Al and Ministry.
That experience gave me a rare, firsthand view of the creativity, intensity, personalities, and realities behind the music. It was an extraordinary chapter of my life—and an opportunity very few people ever have.
Some of the most enduring memories, however, came during quieter moments away from the stage, touring, and the business surrounding the band. This was one of them: Terri, Al, and me simply spending time together at his home.
Looking back, the photograph preserves more than a remarkable professional chapter. It captures the personal relationships and unguarded moments that made the experience unforgettable.
The music becomes history. The personal moments give that history meaning.

Billy Gibbons
March 30, 2019 — El Paso, Texas
When Billy Gibbons came to El Paso for a Shriners fundraiser, Terri and I joined our friend Pat “Guitar Slim” Chase for an evening with one of rock music’s most recognizable figures.
Billy’s sound and style helped define ZZ Top, but what I remember most about that night happened away from the stage. He was gracious, funny, and generous with his time. We talked, laughed, and enjoyed being together while supporting a worthy cause.
The photograph from that evening has become more meaningful to me over time. It brings back the people, conversations, and friendships surrounding it.
That is part of what the Guitar Edition preserves. Alongside the instruments and music are personal moments like this one—the stories that let us return to an evening worth remembering.
