Collective Conversations

Stories Behind Extraordinary Artifacts

Produced by Rutter Media | Hosted by Doug Rutter

Every artifact has a story.

Collective Conversations explores the remarkable history behind defining pieces from The Collective—revealing the people, moments, and legacies that transformed extraordinary objects into enduring pieces of cultural history.

Each episode goes beyond the artifact itself to explore its history, craftsmanship, provenance, and significance through thoughtful, documentary-style conversations.

Spanning sports, music, entertainment, American culture, and the Borderland, the series examines how objects preserve memory, reflect identity, and connect generations.

Produced by Rutter Media and hosted by Doug Rutter, Collective Conversations brings together collectors, historians, athletes, artists, and experts to uncover the stories that give these artifacts meaning.

More than a series about collecting, Collective Conversations is about preserving the stories behind the objects—and the history they represent.

Collective Conversations – Season 2, Episode 5

Guest host Humberto Fournier, a close friend of Coach Don Haskins, shares a remarkable piece of UTEP history: the commemorative basketball honoring Haskins’ 500th career win on December 18, 1987, when UTEP defeated Lamar 87–56.

Legacy and Impact

The episode explores Haskins’ 500-win milestone, 1997 Naismith Hall of Fame induction, and enduring influence on UTEP, El Paso, and the game of basketball—a legacy built on toughness, discipline, and defense.

Tim Hardaway Items

Season 2,  Episode 4

This episode showcases rare memorabilia from Tim Hardaway’s UTEP career, including a game-worn autographed jersey, a team-signed basketball featuring one of his earliest signatures, and inscribed game-worn shorts from 1989.

Together, these artifacts trace Hardaway’s rise from overlooked recruit to one of college basketball’s most dynamic guards—and preserve his enduring UTEP legacy.

B.B. King Signed Guitar - Season 2, Episode 3

A rare guitar signed by B.B. King captures both the artistry and personal connection behind the King of the Blues.

Doug Rutter’s memories of their many phone conversations while B.B. traveled aboard his tour bus transform the guitar from a historic artifact into a personal tribute to a legendary artist, cherished friend, and enduring musical legacy.

Al Jourgensen Stage‑Used Autographed Guitar - Season 2, Episode 2

This stage-played Schecter Flying V was used by Al Jourgensen during Ministry’s The Defibrillator Tour and personally signed by the pioneering frontman.

More than a performance instrument, the guitar captures Ministry’s relentless live energy and Jourgensen’s enduring influence on industrial metal—a rare piece of modern music history.

Los Angeles Lakers Championship Guitar - Season 2, Episode 1

This custom guitar celebrates the Los Angeles Lakers’ 2000–2002 three-peat, signed by Shaquille O’Neal, Kobe Bryant, Phil Jackson, and Derek Fisher.

Acquired through a trade with devoted Lakers fan Penny Marshall, the guitar combines remarkable provenance with the legacy of one of basketball’s most dominant championship dynasties.

MICHAEL JORDAN AUTOGRAPHED SHOES

This episode features autographed shoes from Michael Jordan, personally presented to Don Haskins at Jordan’s Flight School in Las Vegas.

More than a rare collectible, the shoes reflect the mutual respect between two basketball legends and stand as a personal tribute to Haskins’ enduring influence on the game.

PAT “GUITAR SLIM” CHASE

Doug welcomes legendary El Paso guitarist Pat “Guitar Slim” Chase for a conversation about the music, history, and enduring spirit of the blues.

Through personal stories and musical insight, Pat reflects on his influences, distinctive style, and lifelong dedication to the genre—a tribute to the blues and one of El Paso’s most respected guitarists.

GUITAR SIGNED BY THE ROLLING STONES

This striking Union Jack guitar, signed by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood, celebrates the extraordinary legacy of The Rolling Stones.

Doug explores the guitar’s provenance and significance while reflecting on the enduring cultural impact of one of rock and roll’s most influential bands.

GUITAR SIGNED BY BILLY GIBBONS

This autographed guitar, signed by legendary guitarist and vocalist Billy Gibbons, celebrates his unmistakable style and enduring influence on American blues-rock.

More than a signed instrument, it represents the fusion of Texas blues, rock, and innovation that has made Gibbons one of modern music’s most influential guitarists.

JON HERINGTON GUITARS

Doug sits down with acclaimed Steely Dan guitarist Jon Herington to explore his career, craftsmanship, and the instruments that shaped his sound.

Blending music history with rare pieces from The Collective, the episode celebrates the connection between legendary musicians and the guitars that help define their legacy.
