From the Rutter Collective: 1980 Willie Aikens World Series-Used Bat
This 1980 World Series-used Louisville Slugger belonged to Willie Aikens of the Kansas City Royals, whose path to the major leagues included an important stop in El Paso.
In 1976, Aikens played for the El Paso Diablos, then the Double-A affiliate of the California Angels. At just 21 years old, he batted .317 with 30 home runs and 117 RBIs in 133 games at Dudley Field.
Four years later, Aikens helped Kansas City reach its first World Series. Against the Philadelphia Phillies, he hit two home runs in Game 1 and two more in Game 4, becoming the first player in World Series history to record two multi-home-run games in the same World Series.
This bat preserves a remarkable connection between El Paso baseball history and the World Series—from Dudley Field to baseball’s biggest stage.

Played on March 19, 1966, Texas Western defeated Kentucky 72–65 to capture the school’s first national championship. Coach Don Haskins started five Black players, whose victory helped break racial barriers and transform college basketball.
This historic film preserves one of the most consequential games in American sports—a night when a team from El Paso reached the national stage and changed the game forever.

1947 New York Yankees Team-Signed Baseball

A piece of baseball history, this 1947 New York Yankees team-signed baseball represents a championship season for one of professional sports’ most celebrated franchises.
The ball features signatures from members of the 1947 World Series champion Yankees, with Hall of Famer Joe DiMaggio prominently signed on the sweet spot.
That season, the Yankees defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers in a dramatic seven-game World Series, capturing the franchise’s 11th World Championship. DiMaggio was also named the American League’s Most Valuable Player.
